I'm Dawn.

I write stuff.

I'm quick-witted, humorous, creative, collaborative, and willing to learn just about anything. An avid single-spacer and reluctant supporter of the Oxford comma.

I crush it in the New York Times gaming app.

Need Words?

I can probably write ‘em for you.

Areas of Expertise

I started my career in agencyland, writing both digital and print content, primarily for B2C clients.

I’ve also done B2B work as an in-house writer for companies with complicated products, like tech, finance, and healthcare — stuff that matters and is hard to explain.

In my spare time, I read (a lot) and participate in short story competitions. You can hire me for copywriting or read my stories. Or read my copywriting and hire me for stories.

  • Blog posts. Ads. Landing pages. Email campaigns. Case studies. Haikus. Product guides. UX copy. Text game scripts. Office lottery pool contracts. Chatbot trees. Newsletters.

If it has words and a deadline, I've probably written it or something similar. Likely more than once, under pressure, and with pretty good results.

  • The team has to be clear on "Why are we writing this and who is it for?" before everyone gets started. I ask that a lot.

I’ve got plenty of content strategy, SEO, editorial planning, audience mapping, and performance measurement experience. I’ve spent years connecting the writing to business goals so content does more than just exist.

  • Odds are, someone at your company is using the wrong tone in their emails. I can help fix that.

Brand voice development, style guides, editorial standards, and messaging frameworks; I build systems that make your content sound like it was written by people who actually talk to each other.

  • I've explained server architecture to CEOs, tax compliance to small business owners, and cancer treatment options to patients and their families.

If your subject matter is technical, scientific, or just really complicated, I’m your huckleberry. I learn fast, I ask good questions, and I don't dumb things down — I clear them up.

About Work Dawn…

I've spent more than 15 years translating complex subject matter into content non-experts can understand. My in-house experience includes:

  • F5 — Simple stuff like server-side technology and mid-2010s cloud messaging

  • Avalara — The surprisingly interesting world of domestic and international tax compliance software

  • Fred Hutch Cancer Center — Oncology research for five different audiences and zero room for error

Before that, I wrote campaigns for AT&T, Carnival, Hyatt, Xbox, Microsoft, and a bunch of other brands at agencies where the deadlines were unreasonable and the work was excellent.

And it’s not just the words; I also work on the stuff that makes writing better: Editorial boards, style guides, brand voice documentation, and content strategies built on goals and best practices. I’ve got 48+ published blog articles still driving traffic two years after I left the building.

Ultimately, I like working with smart people who take pride in their work and care about how it's produced — not just how it performs.
